I spent a couple days in New York city last week. Ended up drinking lots of beer.
The first stop was the Heartland Brewery on Sixth Avenue. I jumped right in with the IPA and thought it was a little light on the hops but a good brew. Being a huge fan of big hop, west coast IPA's, I was kind of expecting a lighter hop taste in the northeast and that's what I got. I also tried Farmer Jon's Oatmeal Stout and found it very pleasing. I am sometimes fearful of Oatmeal Stouts as they can be thick and syrupy, Jon's is neither of these. All in all, I was excited to see a brewery in the middle of Manhattan and enjoyed the beer.
After hitting the Heartland Brewery, me and my buddy decided to try to get into a Yankee game. I am not a fan of baseball and especially not the Yankees but it was tons of fun. I was a little disappointed to find out that they only serve Macro-brewed beer at the stadium (at least in the section I was sitting) so we proceeded to drink the silver bullet and such.
The game was a ton of fun even if I didn't get a Brooklyn Brewery beer. Maybe they serve those at Shea Stadium? Speaking of Brooklyn Brewery, it was one of my big regrets of the trip. I did not make it out to the brewery but from what I understand they do have a ton of great taps. I did end up having a pint of Brooklyn Lager on my last day it is was delicious. This lager has a great nutty flavor and I feel bad that I did not try it until my last day in NYC.
